Expressive Typography Techniques
We are all familiar with the use of letters and understand that by combining certain letters we make words that can express a feeling or mood or give pertinent information to the user that can enhance their understanding of the idea we are trying to get across.
Exercise 1 - Rethinking font size. Use a combination of different height and point size of type to create new font effects. By gradually increasing or decreasing font size it is possible to create the illusion of movement or the passing of time. May use first and last name. Use Photoshop--- Examples:

Exercise 2 - Stacked type
Use one word that begins and ends with the same letter. Make sure each letter touches. Copy word and stack over or under the original word. Flip the word and stack at least 4 times to get a sense of positive and negative space.

A ligature overlaps and combines letters in a dynamic way.
